14.2.2 Prerequisites for Letters

To create letters on your office’s letterhead, please see 2.4 Uploading your Practice Letterhead.

To set up default properties for the Letters Editor, please see 2.5 Configuring Default Properties for the Letters Editor.


The first time using the Letters tool in the Correspondence module, you will need to install a Letters Editor application. This involves downloading a small application called IceTxEditor to your computer’s hard drive. IceTxEditor is an Adobe Air program by Adobe Systems Inc.

You also may be prompted to update the Letters Editor on occasion.


  • 1. Click the Correspondence icon  in the ICE Dental menu bar. The Create Letter button will be dimmed in the Correspondence tab if you need to update or install the Letters Editor application.
  • 2. Click Update Letters Editor (or click Install Letters Editor if this is your first time using the Letters tool).

  • 3. Wait while the application installs.
  • 4. In the Application Install window, click Open when asked if you would like to open or save this file.
  • 5. If prompted, click to choose to Replace the current application on your computer.
  • 6. If prompted, click Yes when asked if you want to allow the following program to make changes to this computer.
  • 7. In your browser, click to refresh  the ICE Dental Systems page.
  • 8. You can now create a new letter.
